Little Nightmares Review: A Creepy Platformer That Pulled Me In
I've been discovering lately that I have a bit of a thing for creepy games. More specifically, I've developed a love for creepy platformer games that combine exploration, puzzles, strange environments, and just enough horror to make you uncomfortable. And that's where Little Nightmares comes in. I finally played the first Little Nightmares, and I really enjoyed it. The creepy atmosphere immediately pulled me in, and the more I played, the more I appreciated what the game was doing. It's one of those games that doesn't need to scream at you to be scary. Instead, it creates this unsettling little world and lets your imagination do a lot of the work. What Is Little Nightmares About?

Little Nightmares is a puzzle-platformer horror game developer by Tarsier Studios.
You play as Six, a small child trying to escape a strange and terrifying underwater vessel called The Maw. The world is enormous compared to Six, which makes everything feel even more intimidating. Ordinary objects become massive obstacles, and the creatures you encounter are absolutely horrifying compared to your tiny character. A huge part of the experience is exploring The Maw, figuring out where you need to go, solving environmental puzzles, and trying not to get caught by the creatures lurking around. The Creepy Atmosphere Is What Really Got Me

for me, one of the biggest strengths of Little Nightmares is the atmosphere. The game is creepy without having to rely on jump scares. The environments are dark, dirty, strange, and downright disturbing. Even when nothing is happening, there's that feeling that something could happen.
And I love that kind of horror.
The game makes you feel small and vulnerable, which is effective because Six is so tiny compared to everything around her.
walking through a massive room while knowing something could be hiding somewhere nearby creates this constant sense of uneasiness.
Sometimes I wasn't even scared because of something I could actually see.
It was what I couldn't see. I was not much of a horror gamer till here recently and those are some of my favorite horror moments. Are the Little Nightmares Puzzles Hard?

One thing I really appreciated about Little Nightmares was that the puzzles weren't overly complicated.
There were definitely moments where I had to stop and think about what the game wanted me to do, but I never felt like the puzzles were unnecessarily frustrating.
Most of the puzzles involve paying attention to your surroundings and figuring out how the environment works.
You might need to find something you can climb, locate an object, figure out how to reach a different area or understand how something in the room can help you progress.
I really like that style.
The games gives you enough information to work things out without constantly putting a giant objective marker on the screen. Sometimes you just have to look around and experiment. And when you finally figure it out, there's that satisfying little "ohhhhh, that's what I'm supposed to do." The Platforming

The platforming is another part of the game that I really enjoyed.
It's not an extremely complicated platformer, but the movement and environment work together so nicely .
You're jumping, climbing, running hiding, and exploring while trying to figure out where to go next. And because Six is so small, even simple platforming sections can make you feel like you're navigating something much bigger than yourself.
That sense of scale really does work .
I Think I've Found My Gaming Genre
One of the funniest things about playing Little Nightmares is that it made me realize I have developed a love for creepy platform games.
I didn't go out looking for that particular genre. But since It is spooky season and I want all the Spooky vibes I decided to sit down and play it, I completely understand the appeal.
I love being able to explore a strange environment, solve puzzles, platform through different areas, and slowly what the heck is going on.
Add creepy creatures and an unsettling atmosphere?
Yeah.
I'm sold.
There's something really fun about games that don't give you every answer immediately. I like being able to explore and figure things out at my own pace.
Who Would Enjoy Little Nightmares?
I think Little Nightmares would be a great fit for players who enjoy:
Creepy or atmospheric horror games
Puzzle games that aren't overly complicated
Platforming and exploration
Dark and unsettling environments
Games that make you figure things out yourself
Storytelling that leaves some things open to interpretation
Horror that relies heavily on atmosphere rather than constant jump scares
Shorter, focused gaming experiences
I'd especially recommend checking it out if you're someone who likes indie horror games but doesn't necessarily want a game that's nonstop combat or jump scares.
Is Little Nightmares Actually Scary?
I think that depends on what scares you. If you're looking for a game filled with constant jumps scares, Little Nightmares isn't really that. Its horror comes from the atmosphere, disturbing creatures, creepy environments, and the feeling that you're incredibly vulnerable. And that's what made it work for me. The game creates this constant feeling of uneasiness without needing to throw something at you ever five minutes. And sometimes the things you see are just....weird.
The kind of weird where you stop and think: "What the hell am I looking at?" And then keep playing anyway.
