The Beginning of My YouTube Era

The best decisions usually start with one uncomfortable conversation.

For a long time, I thought Twitch was where I was suppose to be. Like so many gamers, I dreamed about building a community there. I worked toward Affiliate, hit that goal, customized my stream, showed up consistently, and kept telling myself that eventually things would take off. But when I hit go live....I was basically streaming into a void. I'd spend hours, laughing, and playing game, only to end the stream wondering if anyone had actually been there. I wasn't burnet out from streaming I was burnt out form feeling invisible. That moment I realized something needed to change,

The Conversation that Changed Everything

Ironically.......

The person who finally convinced me wasn't another creator. It was my fiancé. He had been watching my journey for six years and finally said something that stuck with me.

" I really think YouTube is more your thing."

At first, I ignored him. Starting over on a new platform sounded exhausting. I'd already put so much time into Twitch that leaving almost felt like admitting defeat. Then he said something else.

" You love making content. You love telling stories. You don't just like streaming you love creating."

And he was so right. I have always loved making videos, writing blogs, recording podcast, and creating things that people can come back to later. I was thinking to myself. Maybe I wasn't on the wrong path. Maybe it's been on the wrong platform this entire time.

My Love Hate Relationship with TikTok Live

Now, If you've followed me for any amount of time, you already know I have a very complicated relationship with TikTok Live. Yes, TikTok has incredible discoverability. I have met so many amazing people there, and it's one of the easiest places to connect with a live audience. But It's too fast pace and pushy which I don't like. But I do enjoy creating my short videos on there.

So, I decided to make my short videos on TikTok, leave Twitch and build something long-term on YouTube. A combination that makes sense to me.

Learning YouTube Has Been Humbling

Let me be real here. I have no idea what I am doing. I had a YouTube channel. I would upload videos and walk away. That was my entire strategy on there. Turns out, YouTube is an entirely different world. I am over here learning things I didn't think about before.

I love that it has SEO like yassss!!! this is my jam! But making Playlist and having to organize all those videos I posted and making meaningful descriptions and don't even get me started on thumbnails. Why did no one warn me that making one tiny picture would take me hours? I spent way too much time nudging text one pixel to the left, changing fonts, seconding guessing colors, and asking myself if the thumbnail was "clickable enough" It has been a learning curve.... And I am loving every minute of it.

Why YouTube Feels Different

the biggest thing I have noticed is that YouTube doesn't make me feel rushed. I can upload a game review today, and someone might discover it six months form now. I can livestream, post shorts, write community post, and create long-from videos all in once place. I am not a trend chaser for they disappear overnight, I can build a library of content that continues to work long after I hit publish. And as someone who genuinely loves creating, that's an amazing feeling.

What I've Learned Since Leaving Twitch

If there's one thing this journey has taught me it's this:

Not every platform is meant for every creator. We all create differently. YouTube fits the way my brain works. I enjoy making videos. I love SEO and who knew I would be having a blast making Thumbnails. I enjoy knowing that my content has a chance to be discovered months or even years from now. And that has me excited.

Would I recommend Leaving Twitch?

That depends. If Twitch still excites you every time you hit "Go Live" then keep going. But if you've been forcing yourself to stay because you feel like you have to... Maybe it's worth asking yourself if another platform fits your goals better. I didn't give up cause I left Twitch. I was choosing a platform that lets me create the kind of content I've always wanted to make.

Finding My Home

I don't regret my time on Twitch. It taught me how to stream. It introduced me to wonderful people. It helped me grow as a creator. But YouTube? YouTube feels like home. It's where my cozy gaming reviews, horse game adventures, livestream, podcast and creator stories all belong.

I am still learning, I am still figuring thins out. I'll probably spend way too much time obsessing over thumbnails. But for the first time in a long time, I am actually excited to open up YouTube Studio. And when you get excited about something that's how you know you're exactly where you're suppose to be.
