We're Homeschooling!!: Why I Chose to Pull My Kids From Public School

This wasn't a decision I made overnight.
It wasn't impulsive.
And it wasn't because " I just felt like it"
It was months of research.
Phone calls
Reading Laws
Ordering curriculums.
Talking to services.
Taking notes.
Preparing.
And then one day I looked at everything in front of me and realized....
I'm done.
So yes, we are homeschooling.
And I don't care what other's think about it.
Why I Pulled My Kids From Public School
Public school works from some families.
It just wasn't working for mine.
I watched my kids:
Lose confidence
feel overlooked
get places in systems that didn't adjust to them
come home drained instead of inspired.
And I kept asking myself the same question.
If something isn't serving my children....why am I forcing it to?
School shouldn't feel like survival.
Learning shouldn't feel like pressure.
And education definitely shouldn't feel like a constant battle.
At some point, I realized I wasn't fighting for improvement anymore. I was fighting to keep them afloat.
That's when I knew it was time to step in differently.
This Is About My Kids
Let me be clear about something.
This decision wasn't about:
proving a point
rebelling against the system
trying to be different
or thinking " I know better" than anyone.
It's about my kids.
Their peace
Their confidence
Their learning style
Their mental health
When you're a parent, your job isn't to protect the system.
It's to protect your children.
The Benefits of Homeschooling (That No One Talks About0
People like to assume homeschooling is isolating.
But what I've learned is...it's intentional.
Here's what excites me about this new chapter.
Learning at Their Pace
No rushing.
No being left behind.
No feeling embarrassed for asking questions.
If we need to spend two days on something.
We do.
If they master something quickly?
We move on.
Customized Education
Each of my kids is different.
Homeschooling let's me.
adjust curriculum
focus on strengths
strengthen weak areas
support different learning styles.
One size-fits- all never made sense to me anyway.
Flexible Schedule
We're not confined to a bell.
If we want to:
learn outside
take field trips
turn the dining room into a classroom
dive deep into a topic for hours
We can.
Education doesn't have to live in a fluorescent-lit box.
Emotional Safety
This one is big.
When the kids feel safe, they learn better.
When they're not navigating unnecessary stress, comparison, or pressure?
Their confidence grows.
And confidence changes everything.
"Isn't That Going to Be a Lot/"
Yes.
It will be work.
But here's the truth.
I've already been doing the work.
Helping with homework.
Advocating.
Researching
Supplementing.
Fixing what wasn't being addressed.
The difference now?
I control the environment.
And that brings peace.
The Name We Chose
The kids even picked the name of our school.
Little Hollow Academy.
And I think that says everything.
They're not scared.
They're excited.
that alone confirmed for me that I made the right decision.
This Is a New Chapter
I know not everyone will agree.
That's okay.
Homeschooling isn't for every family.
Public school isn't for every family either.
What matters is that parents have the right to choose what's best for their children.
And I chose.
Not out of anger
Not out of pride
But out of responsibility.
We're homeschooling.
And this chapter?
It feels aligned.
