A Cozy, Honest Look at AI Relationships and Why We Need to Stay Grounded
I want to talk about something I've been thinking about a lot lately.
Something that's honestly been sitting heavy on my heart.
It started when I saw a video on TikTok. A woman was talking about her feelings for her psychiatrist...and then how she began using ChatGPT AI to create conversations that blurred the line between her real-life situation and a fictional, Ai-driven relationships.
It was a deep. Personal. emotional. She was living in those conversations. And to her, they felt real.
It made me stop and think:
How many other people are doing this right now?
How many are forming friendships or relationships with AI....without realizing how far it's gone?
And how many can't see the difference between reality and fiction anymore?
AI Is Powerful And That's Exactly Why It's Dangerous
I'm not anti-Ai
I use it. It's fun, It's useful, it's creative, it's convenient.
I have also came across a ton of creators posting videos of them talking to ChatGPT, or Character. AI and listening to these bots remember things these creators have told them. and the way they seem to understand their feelings. It makes you think there's an actual person on the other end.
And if they have built this kind of "friendship" with ther AI I just think about what they talk about when they aren't on camera like when they are alone and lonely? maybe hurting, and longing for connection they aren't getting in real life.
Just that little spark alone can be addictive.
The Blurred Line : AI Psychosis
There's actually a term that mental health experts are starting to use: Ai psychosis. It's when someone interacts with Ai so much that they begin to lose the ability to seperate what's real from what's generated.
For some people, this starts harmlessly maybe joking around with an Ai, roleplaying, or creating fun "what if" scenarios. But over time, if you keep leaning on that AI for comfrot, validation, or even love...it can start to replace real-world connections.
And when that happens?
It can change how you view reality.
Your brain starts to treat the AI as an actual person...which let me remind you is NOT
Why This Hit Me So Hard
The TikTok I saw wasn't about someone just playing with Tech.
It was someone who was genuinely, emotionally invested in something that wasn't real.
And it scared me! Not just for her, but for anyone who might be quietly going down that same path.
I think about people who are isolated.
people who've been hurt.
people who struggle to trust others, but find "safety" in talking to an AI that never judges, never leaves, and always says the right thing.
It's comforting...
But it's also not reality.
Why We Have to Talk About This
I have seen trends going around of people saying be nice to your AI cause this is how it sees me. As they post a AI generate a photo of what its like chatting with that person on any given day and telling it to be as honest as it wants to be. and honestly that is scary to me.
People are turning more to AI for instant companionship, with no drama, and for that uplifting spark and this is why we have to be careful.
Because real life is messy.
Real relationships involve compromise, misunderstandings, and sometimes pain, but they're also where true growth, connection, and love happen.
If AI starts replacing that for too many people....we risk losing our ability to connect for real.
We risk creating entire communities of people who can't tell the difference between reality and fiction anymore.
My Cozy Caution to You
I'm not saying don't use AI.
I'm not even saying don't have fun with it.
But I am saying:
Check in with yourself
Are you using AI as a tool, or are you using it as your reality.
If you're spending more time talking to AI than actual people...maybe take a step back.
And if you notice a friend leaning too far into it, talk to them. Gently without judgment.
Technology can be incredible!
It can make life easier, more fun, and even more creative.
But it should never replace messy, complicated, beautiful connections we can have with actual human beings.
In the same way I can spend hours in a horse game and feel like I've been on an epic adventure...I know it's not real. I know when I close the game, look around, and be present in my own life.
AI is the same.
Enjoy it. Use it. Learn from it.
But remember to log off.
Because the best parts of life are happening outside the chat window.
With love, caution, and reality checks
